Troy Marks Safety Milestone with Week of Training and Awareness

  • 2 minute read

A week of training, emergency preparedness and safety education reinforced a culture of prevention at Freudenberg Sealing Technologies (FST) as employees at the Troy facility participated in Safety Week. The program brought together employees, local first responders and health, safety and environmental professionals to focus on actions that can help prevent injuries at work, at home and in the community. The event also followed the site’s achievement of 1,000 accident-free days on June 28.

The week centered on FST’s safety message, “Stop. Think. Act.” and featured daily learning opportunities designed to strengthen awareness and preparedness.

Members of the Troy Police Department met with employees across all three shifts to discuss workplace violence awareness, including what to do during a threat and what employees can expect from local law enforcement during an emergency response.

The focus shifted to fire prevention on Wednesday when the Troy Fire Department shared information about fire safety, extinguisher use, common causes of household fires and emergency response procedures inside the facility.

Both the police and fire department participated at no cost to FST.

Thursday’s activities included heat stress training covering heat-related illnesses, prevention strategies, first-aid measures, acclimation and understanding the heat index. Employees also participated in group activities that reinforced key safety messages.

The week concluded Friday with a tornado drill that gave employees an opportunity to review emergency procedures and preparedness practices.

“Safety Week gave employees practical information they can use every day, whether they are at work, at home or in their communities,” said Jay White, Competence Center Manager. “The strong participation across shifts demonstrated a shared commitment to looking out for one another and making safety part of every decision. This week-long event also highlights our commitment to the safety culture in Troy that has helped us achieve 1,000 accident-free days.”

According to Jennifer Helman, HSE Specialist, the program was intentionally designed to emphasize learning and awareness while remaining cost-conscious.

“Our goal was to create meaningful opportunities for employees to engage with safety topics that affect them directly,” Helman said. “The support from local police and fire departments allowed us to provide valuable training and discussions while keeping costs low. Safety is most effective when it remains visible, practical and relevant.”

Hosted by the HSE team, Safety Week focused on education, preparedness and employee engagement. Through partnerships with local first responders and targeted training sessions, the program reinforced FST’s commitment to maintaining a safe workplace.
