The Bursa site is engaged in a wide range of initiatives supporting education and the next generation of scientists.
The e2 program is a flagship initiative within the Freudenberg Group’s social and community engagement. Since its launch in 2015, it has focused on advancing education and the environment. Its goal is to inspire employees worldwide to get involved locally in nonprofit projects related to education and environmental protection. The Freudenberg Sealing Technologies (FST) site in Bursa, Turkey, is setting a strong example – particularly in its work with children and young people.
With support from e2 funding, the site partnered with others last year to design and equip an exceptional classroom at a public school. There, students develop and deepen their understanding of mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, and engineering, as well as sustainability and environmental issues. Guided by mentors and working in teams with their peers, they put what they learn into practice in a hands-on, engaging way.
This commitment to young people is not a one-time effort; the FST site continues to build on it. Recently, for example, a team of employees participated in the classroom by helping students design eco-friendly vehicles. Another initiative was aimed at employees’ children. At the plant, they explored sustainability and their individual responsibility for environmental protection through a series of hands-on workshops. In a collaborative project, they created an artwork from leftover sealing materials. This artistic approach to recycling is now on display in the company cafeteria – a creative reflection of their learning and teamwork.
Another example of how the site fosters technical understanding, problem-solving skills, and creativity among young people: preparations are currently underway to participate in the FIRST LEGO League. In this program, teams of young researchers, guided by experienced Freudenberg employees, delve into robotics by building and programming robots made from LEGO bricks. Originally launched in the United States, this STEM education program – combining events and competition – now reaches young people with an interest in science and technology around the world, including in Bursa, Turkey, with support from FST.
