{"id":22145,"date":"2025-10-17T15:56:38","date_gmt":"2025-10-17T13:56:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sw.fst.com\/magazine\/?p=22145"},"modified":"2025-10-17T15:56:39","modified_gmt":"2025-10-17T13:56:39","slug":"kids-commutes-and-creativity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sw.fst.com\/magazine\/en\/2025\/10\/kids-commutes-and-creativity\/","title":{"rendered":"Kids, Commutes and Creativity"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"is-style-cnvs-paragraph-callout wp-block-paragraph\">Eight\u00a0students from GESU\u00a0Elementary\u00a0School in Detroit visited Freudenberg Sealing Technologies (FST) in Plymouth as part of the company\u2019s e\u00b2 initiative, which connects education and environmental awareness through hands-on learning experiences.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The students, all members of GESU\u2019s Science Club, presented a data-driven project focused on offsetting carbon dioxide emissions. Each of the students spoke during the presentation, sharing how they calculated the total daily commute distance for GESU\u2019s staff and students, the types of vehicles used and the resulting carbon output. Their research showed that over&nbsp;2,666 miles&nbsp;are driven daily, producing approximately&nbsp;2,232 kilograms&nbsp;of CO\u2082. The students also outlined strategies to reduce emissions, including reforestation, energy efficiency, and&nbsp;the adoption of&nbsp;electric vehicles.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video height=\"1080\" style=\"aspect-ratio: 1920 \/ 1080;\" width=\"1920\" controls poster=\"https:\/\/sw.fst.com\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/IMG_0511-scaled.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/sw.fst.com\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/GESU-v2.mp4\"><\/video><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Following the presentation, the students toured&nbsp;the&nbsp;FNST labs,&nbsp;concluding&nbsp;their visit with an art project led by&nbsp;Stephanie&nbsp;DeRussel, Branding Manager for the Freudenberg Group. Using materials from&nbsp;the many&nbsp;Freudenberg business groups, the students created Assemblage-style artworks, a form of visual art that incorporates three-dimensional elements.&nbsp;DeRussel&nbsp;will curate the final pieces for display at FNACC and FNST\u2019s North American headquarters.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis visit was a great example of how industry and education can work hand in hand to inspire young learners,\u201d said <strong>Amanda Lobley<\/strong>, who championed the GESU e\u00b2 partnership. \u201cThe students were engaged, enthusiastic, and clearly having fun\u2014from presenting their research to exploring our labs and creating art.\u00a0Their energy reminded us why these connections matter.\u201d\u00a0<br>\u00a0<br>GESU Catholic School serves students from preschool through eighth grade, emphasizing academic excellence and community engagement.
