Dear Readers,

Materials are the main focus of the latest issue of SEALING WORLD. Material expertise is simultaneously the DNA and success formula of Freudenberg Sealing Technologies (FST). It is the foundation for all the products that we produce and the innovations that we develop. In our own mixing plants, we produce compounds for a wide range of applications with different requirements. But here as well, FST often finds itself entering new territory, much like its customers. Ruth Bieringer, Vice President, Material Technology at Technology & Innovation (T & I), talks about the opportunities and challenges emerging in the materials field.

The Freudenberg Group marks an anniversary in 2024: The company turned 175 on February 9. But how did it get started? What moved founder Carl Johann Freudenberg to pursue his future in Weinheim? What support and resources did he have? Join us on a trip back to the year 1849.

At FST, occupational safety and employee well-being are an extremely high priority. The company’s accident rate was at a historic low in 2023. A strong Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) system, along with a wide range of projects, both large and small, played a role in this. For example, employees at the Lead Center Special Sealing Automotive in Reichelsheim developed a plastic covering that can prevent cut injuries. The innovation earned the plant a nomination for a 12,000-euro award from the Social Accident Insurance Institution for the raw materials and chemical industry (BG RCI).

I hope you enjoy our latest issue.

Sincerely,

Isolde Grabenauer
Editor-in-chief
