Made in France

During Safety Week over the summer, employees were given a close look at how the foldable battery seals made at their site are advancing the cause of electric mobility. Four electric vehicles offered the evidence.

Workshops on environmental topics are no doubt classic elements of HSE Week programs. For example, they sensitize employees to their own ecological footprint and motivate them to reduce it. That was certainly the case for the program held at the Competence Center Gaskets in Langres in eastern France in late June. Langres also had a very special item on its agenda: Four vehicles from two leading automotive brands, each with premium equipment, were presented during the program. All were environmentally-friendly, complete with all-electric drives. The unique feature: A foldable gasket “made in Langres” was incorporated into each battery.

The four vehicles, appropriately enough, were parked near the production line where the innovative gaskets, designed for the sustainable mobility of the future, are manufactured.
The vehicles made it easy to grasp the results of the plant’s successful development efforts and the importance of error-free work each day. And it was not hard to notice a certain pride in the employees when they saw what the cars had to offer – thanks to “their” product.

Experts from the local dealerships fielded questions on electric powertrains, charging methods, ranges and much more. The employees had the chance to familiarize themselves with driver assistance systems and safety functions. One aspect polished the facility’s image and reputation as a source of innovative technology. With the phrase “Made in Langres,” the dealerships drew attention to the fact that FST produces automotive high technology not far from their showrooms.

Seal At The Housing Cover

The “foldable gasket” offers functional, processing and ecological advantages. First of all, the product guarantees the reliable sealing and integrates mounting points for the clips used to attach the seal to the cover. That adds to the reliability and longevity of the battery system. Its easy removal also facilitates maintenance and repair later, so the battery can be reused instead of replaced. This benefits the vehicle owner as well as the environment. Despite its large dimensions when in place, the seal can be manufactured on a small press in Langres. In addition, its automated folding technology reduces production costs and the need for packaging, which lowers transport costs significantly.

Have a look, what the Rugby facility has offered its staff as a hands on lesson on electric mobility.
