Energy is the overarching theme of this edition of SEALING WORLD. In an era of climate change, we are all aware of how crucial it is to pay close attention to energy issues. In recent months, the prices for electricity, gas, heating oil, gasoline and diesel have also risen tremendously in many countries around the world, fueling inflation. Electrification – if possible with green electricity – and sources of renewable energy are in high demand.
At Freudenberg Sealing Technologies (FST), we charted our course early on, developing products for use in wind power and solar panel systems and in every conceivable e-mobility application. They include huge profiles for wind turbines as well as small seals that protect solar connectors from environmental damage. Fire-resistant products that prevent thermal runaway in batteries are another example.
We are looking at hydrogen as well. It can store energy or serve as an energy source. If the energy used to generate it comes from renewable sources, it is all the more valuable and sustainable. We are moving our business into the future and have developed solutions in this area. These issues are becoming more important as the internal combustion engine moves toward its phase-out in Europe in a few years.
The focus is also on our footprint, our approach to the environment. Sustainability and energy conservation go hand-in-hand. Around the world, we are taking advantage of opportunities to electrify our facilities, cut our consumption of electricity, purchase green power wherever possible, and generate it with photovoltaic cells at our factories – especially at newly constructed buildings. In light of the high costs of energy in Europe, conservation is not just an ecological imperative – it is a must from an economic standpoint as well. This is true in our personal lives as well as in our business.
I hope you enjoy reading our latest issue.
