In September, Freudenberg laid the cornerstone for its new facility in the Can Volart industrial zone in Parets del Vallès, Spain. Among other components, the facility manufactures sealing products for the auto industry. A number of local officials took part in the ceremony: Parets del Vallès Mayor Francesc Juzgado, Deputy Mayor Casandra Garcia, Second Deputy Mayor Frances de la Torre, and City Planning Commissioner Rosa Martí. Claus Möhlenkamp, Chief Executive Officer of Freudenberg Sealing Technologies (FST), and Jaume Cané, Freudenberg’s Managing Director for Spain, took part in the groundbreaking.
The new facility will be a robot-supported factory covering 6,500 square meters (70,000 square feet) that will run on renewable energy instead of fossil fuels. The facility, which is replacing the old plant, is due to be up and running in 2023. The company expects it will be able to produce 15 percent more shock absorber components and steering systems at the site.
FST is investing more than 12 million euros in the new automated factory, setting a benchmark for sustainability.
